JOB SUMMARY
The successful candidate will work within Hepatitis C research study team and will be under the supervision of Dr. Motiur Rahman. The principal component of this position will be organisation and management of the study specimen and conduct molecular diagnostic tests for the study. S/he will be responsible for daily management of the sample reception, nucleic acid extraction and DNA sequencing, HCV viral load estimation following SOPs. S/he will be responsible for development and documentation of the specimen management system, SOPs for specimen reception, testing SOPs, collate the test results and coordinate with Study team and CTU for study management.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with study team for collection storage and analysis of patients sample for Hepatitis C and other pathogens.
- Receive specimen for the study and store them according to SOP. Monitor the cold chain with lab management staff and ensure smooth
- Organize logistics for the testing including ordering supplies, follow shipment, storage of the supplies and other materials and documentation of the storage conditions and inventory management.
- Conduct laboratory testing for the study (diagnosis of Hepatitis C using serological and molecular test, genotyping of Hepatitis C by PCR and DNA sequencing) recording of test results and source documentation, as per unit policy and GCLP guidelines.
- Other tasks related to Hepatitis research as required.

HOURS OF WORKS
37.5 hours per week, extra hours may be required.
TENURE
Initially for 1 year, including a 2 month probation period, with possibility of extension.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- MSc in biology, microbiology, virology with minimum 1 year of laboratory experience.
- Experience with laboratory diagnostic methods (serology, molecular diagnostic), standard molecular biology techniques including RNA extraction, DNA sequencing and sequence analysis. Familiar with Hepatitis related diagnostic or molecular research. Knowledge in bio informatics or DNA sequence analysis
DESIRED CRITERIA
- Knowledge on cold chain management including Freezerworks will be an asset
- Knowledge on Laboratory Quality System is an advantage
- Methodical approach to record-keeping
- Good written and spoken English and Vietnamese
- Team player, focused and result oriented, Reliable
- Familiarity with computers, particularly MS Office: Word, net browsing Excel and e-mail, Freezerworks, Labguard etc

- Team work
- Fluency in both Vietnamese and English
- Can read and understand technical document
- Problem solving ability
