The work location will be at the factory:
Workshop A4, A5, Ready Built Factory at Plot T4 area, Expanded Long Hau Industrial Park, Can Giuoc Village, Tay Ninh Province
As a Senior Upper Engineer, you are a key technical leader in transforming creative designs into manufacturable, high-performance uppers. You bring deep expertise in pattern engineering, 2D/3D CAD, upper construction, computer stitching and materials - ensuring exceptional fit, function, and production readiness across all development stages.
You will lead engineering for assigned projects, solve complex construction challenges, and act as a mentor for junior engineers. You will work closely with Design, Development, Costing, Tooling, and Production teams to ensure every upper meets Shoefabrik's technical standards and sustainability goals.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Pattern Engineering & Technical Development
• Work at the factory but closely to the pattern engineering team at the office since beginning of each project.
• Create taped shells and mean forms based on last construction
• Develop 2D base shells using design packs, CADs, 3D renders, and vacuum-formed design requirements and referring to previous models for reference points.
• Include all required details-logos, stitch lines, eyelets, overlays, reinforcements, vamps, and functional components-before review.
• Create and modify 2D/3D upper patterns using advanced CAD tools.
• Revise base shell/patterns following development or customer requests.
• Be able to explain to the
developers and the sample room team how to make the pullover.
• Follow up and give support during making the pullovers.
• Translate design intent into precise, production-ready pattern layouts.
• Analize when pallets or Jigs that can help to speed up process and increase efficiency are necessary.
• Split patterns and generate DXF files for SR cutting and pullover creation.
• Prepare mini tech-packs for non-standard constructions or advanced assemblies.
• Transfer patterns pieces to Costing Team when requested.
2. Prototype Review, Fit Validation & Refinement
• Lead engineering reviews during prototype development and trial stages.
• Validate fit, balance, and construction accuracy in pullover and sample evaluations.
• Implement engineering refinements quickly and thoroughly.
• Collaborate with sample room teams during pullover creation and adjust patterns to
• Achieve intended fit and function.
3. Industrialization & Production Readiness
• Prepare and release graded patterns, sewing guides, cutting files, and documentation for Costing and Production.
• Provide accurate patterns and engineering packages to factories, including hard-copy and digital versions.
• Review factory pattern files to ensure no unauthorized changes to mean forms or constructions; guide factories on proper file structure and naming.
• Support technical troubleshooting with Tooling, Costing, Development, and Production Engineering teams.
• Ensure pattern updates are integrated for Commercialization and Production teams across multiple sizes and genders.
• Develop and check manufacturing tools, such as cutting dies, hot-press molds, and logo stamps.
• Optimize process when is possible using computer stitching, and other tools like molds, jigs.
4. Artwork, Components & Cross-Functional Inputs
• Transfer artwork files for engineered mesh, knit patterns, logos, embroidery, 5D prints, upper molds, and bottom tooling teams.
• Ensure all upper engineering data aligns with design intent, performance needs, and manufacturing capability.
• Maintain complete, organized digital files and documentation for all assigned projects.
5. Digital Engineering & Process Improvement
• Drive digitalization using advanced CAD and simulation tools.
• Maintain accurate digital libraries of mean forms, patterns, pullovers, and construction references.
• Support improvements in pattern efficiency, yield, and material used to reduce waste.
• Contribute to sustainability initiatives by optimizing construction, material layering, and reinforcing methods.
6. Mentorship & Team Development
• Provide guidance, training, and technical support to junior engineers.
• Share expertise in CAD methods, pattern logic, construction techniques, and material considerations.
• Encourage problem-solving, craftsmanship, and continuous learning within the team
• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Footwear Manufacturing, Industrial Design, or related technical field.
• 6+ years of experience in upper or pattern engineering, ideally in performance footwear.
• Advanced proficiency in 2D/3D engineering software such as Crispin Engineer, Shoemaster, RomansCAD, iCAD or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of upper constructions, lamination processes, bonding, and stitching sequences.
• Ability to independently manage complex projects and mentor other engineers.
• Excellent communication, organization, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Strong English-speaking skills (Mandarin is an advantage).
• Passion for digital tools, craftsmanship, and sustainable engineering practices.
