Summary:
The overall function of this position is to uphold Preferred by Nature's mission to support better land management and business practices that benefit people, nature and the climate, and contribute to identifying, pursuing, and implementing opportunities where Preferred by Nature can have a positive influence, in line with our mission.
The position is supervised and under the responsibility of Preferred by Nature as the lead applicant of the project Reducing Climate Impact of Rice Production in Indonesia (ID-012) under the programme Switch Asia. The project is funded by the SWITCH-Asia Program, a program running under the European Union and will be running for three years, starting in January 2022. This project is specifically funded under the programme Priority 1: Supporting MSMEs in reducing the impact of their industrial production, improving resource efficiency, and adopting circular practices.
Task and Responsibilities
Overall responsibility of Technical, Rice Specialist is to assist the Project Lead Manager in implementing Low Carbon Rice/LCR project team.
The detailed tasks and responsibilities are:
- Under supervision of the Project Lead Manager, to implement all project plans in which according to the contract agreement signed by Preferred by Nature and the EU, to ensure that project activities and expected results meet with the overall mission and goals of the project plan and are aligned with Preferred by Nature's programme area, services, and other ongoing rice projects;
- Support the implementation of the Project Plan by providing technical and operational support for training and capacity building, monitoring and reporting as required.
- Coordination with other Preferred by Nature project team members, partner's staff members and other strategic networks to ensure technical accuracy;
- Contributing technical expertise in areas of sustainability, certification, agri-business development and working with private sector stakeholders as needed within the scope of the project;
- Taking initiative and/or join regular one-on-one meetings;
- Act as a change advocate to support the successful implementation of organisational changes;
- Provide specific advice, strategy or solution whenever possible due to the role of the Technical Rice Specialist;
- Taking initiative to lead the implementation as the project work plan, join in the field activities or other field trip when relevant and related with the Description of Action and or other workplan.
Professional requirements
- Expert in the Rice sector,
- Advanced university degree and or related knowledge sector in Agriculture, Agronomy or Horticulture Science and management, Agri-business Management, or relevant Field,
- Have at least 3 years of extensive experience in integrated, sustainable rice production systems and management and
- At least 3 years experience in project implementation
- Extent and relevance of experience in climate resilient and sustainable agricultural production management practices and improved technologies,
- Familiar with data analysis.
- A business development skill related to the rice sector will be an advantage
- Excellent communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia,
- Strong computer, report writing, and presentation skills,
- Technical and practical knowledge on establishment of pilot demonstrations of improved practices and conducting training
- International experience with development agencies and/or exposure to donor project will be an advantage

Position details
- Work time: 40 hours/week
- The position reports to the Lead Project Manager
- Working location: Preferred by Nature office Indonesia OR Solo would be an advantage
- The Specialist will be required to undertake field visits and tours as per the requirement of the Project
- Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
- Expected starting date: ASAP 2022
