Role Overview
The Chief Accountant will lead the full spectrum of financial operations in Vietnam, ensuring strong compliance, financial discipline, and business support. This role serves as both a financial controller and business partner, responsible for safeguarding the company's financial integrity while supporting revenue growth, cost control, and operational scalability.
In a lean and fast-paced environment, the Chief Accountant is expected to be hands-on where required, while maintaining full ownership, control, and accountability over all financial processes, reporting, and compliance matters.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management, Reporting & Controls
• Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance
with Vietnamese Accounting Standards (VAS), with alignment to IFRS/group reporting
where applicable.
• Own and enforce a structured month-end closing process (target: ≤5 working days), ensuring
accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
• Develop and manage cash flow forecasts, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operations, events,
and vendor commitments.
• Drive annual budgeting and rolling forecasts, including variance analysis and actionable
recommendations to management.
• Prepare management reports with commercial insights, including profitability by event,
campaign, and client segment.
• Establish, implement, and enforce internal financial controls to safeguard assets and minimise
risks of error, fraud, or financial leakage.
2. Accounting Operations & Governance
• Oversee the full accounting cycle, including General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP),
Accounts Receivable (AR), payroll, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.
• Ensure accurate and timely invoicing, revenue recognition, and collections, working closely
with
Business Development (BD) teams to minimise receivables risk and improve cash flow.
• Monitor AR/AP aging reports, and drive structured follow-up and collection actions to ensure
timely recovery of outstanding balances.
• Perform and review monthly reconciliations (bank, cash, credit card, and balance sheet
accounts), ensuring completeness and accuracy.
• Maintain a well-structured and scalable chart of accounts, aligned with both statutory and
management reporting requirements.
• Develop, implement, and enforce finance SOPs, workflows, and internal controls to ensure
consistency, efficiency, and audit readiness.
3. Financial Administration, Documentation & Sales Reporting
• Review and/or prepare payment vouchers, ensuring all disbursements are properly authorised,
supported, and accurately recorded in accordance with internal controls.
• Oversee and verify staff claims and reimbursements, ensuring:
o Complete and valid supporting documentation (receipts/invoices)
o Compliance with company policies and applicable tax regulations
• Ensure proper issuance, tracking, and recording of official receipts for collections and
reimbursements, where applicable.
• Maintain a complete, well-organised audit trail for all financial transactions, ensuring
compliance with Vietnamese regulatory and audit requirements.
• Strengthen documentation practices to ensure full transparency, traceability, and audit
readiness at all times.
• Ensure accurate, complete, and timely recording of all sales transactions in the accounting
system.
• Review and validate sales reports submitted by BD and operations teams, ensuring
alignment with contracts, pricing terms, and invoicing.
• Reconcile sales data against invoices, contracts, and collections, proactively identifying
discrepancies and preventing revenue leakage.
• Maintain clear visibility of revenue performance, including:
o Revenue by event (e.g., BOWS / WEX)
o Revenue by client and campaign
• Identify, highlight, and escalate any inconsistencies, risks, or anomalies in sales reporting to
management in a timely manner.
4. Taxation, Compliance & Risk Management (Vietnam Focus)
• Ensure full compliance with Vietnamese regulations including VAT, CIT, PIT, FCT, and
other statutory requirements.
• Prepare, review, and submit tax filings and statutory reports accurately and on time.
• Act as the main liaison with tax authorities, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
• Proactively manage tax risks, audits, and inspections, ensuring minimal exposure.
• Stay updated on regulatory changes and advise management on financial and tax
implications.
• Ensure all financial transactions and contracts are structured in a tax-compliant and efficient
manner.
5. Commercial & Business Partnering
• Partner closely with Business Development and Sales teams to:
o Review contracts, pricing structures, and margins
o Ensure commercial deals are financially viable and properly structured
• Support event financial planning (e.g., BOWS / WEX), including:
o Budgeting and cost control
o Vendor payment planning
o Revenue tracking and reconciliation
• Analyze campaign and event ROI, providing insights and recommendations to improve
profitability.
• Support client onboarding and payment structuring to minimise financial and credit risk.
6. Audit, Systems & Process Optimisation
• Lead annual audits and ensure full audit readiness at all times.
• Optimize the use of accounting systems (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, SAP, or local VN systems
such as MISA/Fast), ensuring data accuracy and reporting efficiency.
• Drive automation and continuous process improvements to streamline accounting
workflows.
• Integrate finance systems with CRM, event, and sales tracking systems where applicable.
• Train and guide junior finance staff and cross-functional teams on finance processes, controls,
and compliance requirements.
7. Regional & Expansion Support
• Support multi-entity accounting and intercompany transactions (Singapore-Vietnam
alignment).
• Assist in setting up financial structures for new business units or market expansion.
• Ensure consistency and accuracy in financial reporting for group consolidation purposes.
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Certified Chief Accountant (Vietnam) is required
• CPA / ACCA qualification is a strong advantage
• Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
• Strong working knowledge of:
- Vietnamese Accounting Standards (VAS)
- Vietnam tax regulations (VAT, CIT, PIT, FCT)
• Proficiency in accounting systems (Xero, QuickBooks, SAP, MISA, Fast, or equivalent)
• Advanced Excel skills (financial analysis, reporting, modelling)
• Experience in events, media, publishing, or agency environment is highly preferred
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate financial data into business insights
• Good communication skills in English and Vietnamese
• High integrity, detail-oriented, proactive, and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Preferred Qualities:
• Experience with multi-currency transactions and intercompany reconciliations.
• Familiarity with
digital marketing or e-commerce revenue recognition.
• Interest in lifestyle sectors such as weddings, parenting, or pet care.
• Ability to work flexibly during peak periods or events (e.g., BOWS).
• Leadership potential and willingness to mentor junior team members.
