Job description:
We are seeking a dynamic and hands-on Head of Software Engineering to spearhead the development of Shipcheck. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assembling and leading a high-performing team of 3-4 developers and driving the technical direction of the product. Crucial to this role is the ability to deliver complete data-driven web applications, with expertise in cloud technologies (e.g.AWS), data management, frontend data visualizations, API integration, AI, and a strong hands-on mentality.
Your tasks:
- Technical Leadership
- Define the technical roadmap and architectural vision for Shipcheck, aligning with business objectives and industry best practices.
- Lead by example, actively contributing to the development process, and guiding the team in implementing a scalable and high-quality solution.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends, particularly in cloud computing (AWS), AI, database design, frontend frameworks and API integration and leverage them to maximize Shipcheck's capabilities.
- Team Building and Management
- Recruit, onboard, and mentor a team of 3-4 talented developers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Provide guidance and support to team members, empowering them to take ownership of their work and grow both professionally and personally.
- Foster a hands-on mentality within the team, encouraging active participation in all stages of the development lifecycle.
- Product Development
- Manage and actively contribute to the end-to-end development of Shipcheck, from conception to delivery and beyond, ensuring alignment with customer needs and market trends.
- Collaborate closely with business leaders and design to translate requirements into technical specifications and actionable plans.
- Drive the backend implementation ensuring adequate handling of large amounts of data
- Drive the implementation of interactive data visualizations on the frontend, leveraging modern frameworks and libraries to enhance user engagement and decision-making.
- Technology Stack and Integration
- Champion best practices in cloud computing (AWS), database modelling and design, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security of Shipcheck's infrastructure.
- Facilitate seamless integration of third-party services and APIs to complete Shipcheck's functionality and provide value to our users.
- Leverage AI technologies to enhance data organization and analytics capabilities
- Leverage best practices in frontend and appealing data visualization to drive actionable insights for optimizing logistics cost management.

Your Skills and Experience
Education, Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of relevant working experience
- Proven experience in delivering complete web applications for over 1000 monthly users end-to-end
- Up-to-date expertise in all fields of software engineering, e.g. cloud computing (AWS), database management, backend, frontend data visualizations, API integration, and AI.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills, with a passion for mentoring and developing talent.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement
- Ability to identify with a product for the logistics sector
- Enthusiasm, dedication to work and willingness to work in a new team
- You have a high sense of discipline and a serious attitude at work
- Diligent, honest, thorough, agile, inquisitive, hardworking
- You are looking for a long-term position in a new young team
- Strong hands-on mentality
Language skills:
- Written and spoken English
