Healthcare Assistant

Take charge when someone is injured or becomes ill and give immediate help to casualties with common injuries or illnesses and those arising from any specific unexpected hazards at school;
When necessary, ensure that an ambulance or other professional medical help is summoned and the injured person is transported to the designated clinic of choice;
Take care of all first aid equipment and ensure adequate supplies of first aid materials are available in the nurses' rooms and that all first aid boxes for use on field trips and in other locations in school are properly stocked;
Check the hair of all students in the event of cases of head lice and advise parents of appropriate action;
If aware of any contagious disease at school, advise the Principal immediately so that parents may be informed;
Conduct periodic checks of the school environment including the canteen and food preparation area and report to the Principal any Health and Safety issues of concern;
Maintain a complete record of accidents and treatment in the appropriate "accident report" book and advise parents of the nature of the accident and treatment administered;
Administer medication on the written instructions of parents;
Be fully aware of any allergies that students may have and be prepared to respond appropriately in an emergency;
To make sure that pupils are healthy and safe on the school premises. In exceptional circumstances this could extend to administering medicine and/or taking action in an emergency, after consultation with the parents when this is possible.
Develop nursing care plans for students and staff based on assessment, diagnosis, implementation and evaluation of care;
Monitoring and managing communicable diseases and advise the SLT immediately so that parents may be informed, and assessing the school environment as to prevent injury and ensure safety;
Administer medications and nursing care in line with the British International School and Nord Anglia Education Medication Procedures and Guidelines and the Clinic Manual;
Update students' medical information;
Support the school during trips and activities that requires the presence of the nurse
Promoting the general health and well-being of all pupils;
Providing health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings;
Maintaining records of health related issues;
Communicating and consulting with the parents of pupils on health issues;
Communicating and co-operating with external agencies to provide the best health care support for the school.
Keeping up to date on professional matters relating to school nursing;
Participating in arrangements for further training and professional development as a nurse as appropriate.
Advising and co-operating with the Principal and other teachers on the preparation and development of certain aspects of our Personal Social & Health Education courses.
