Trucking Operations Manager

Job Purpose
Following its expansion, Medlog Vietnam Holding (MVH) is looking for an experienced and versatile Trucking Operations Manager who is responsible for leading and managing all trucking operations to ensure safe, reliable, cost-efficient, and customer-focused transportation services across the company's logistics network. The incumbent oversees transportation planning, dispatch operations, fleet utilization, subcontractor management, driver performance, operational compliance, and service quality. The role is accountable for achieving operational KPIs, optimizing transportation costs, maximizing fleet productivity, and delivering excellent customer service while maintaining the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance. The Trucking Operations Manager works closely with Commercial, Customer Service, Depot, HSSE, Finance and other teams to support business growth and continuously improve transportation performance.
Key Responsibilities
Trucking Operations Management
• Lead the daily trucking operations to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time transportation services.
• Manage transportation planning, dispatching, routing, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Ensure effective coordination between depots, terminals, customers, truck drivers, and subcontractors.
• Monitor transportation capacity and optimize truck utilization to maximize operational efficiency.
• Ensure timely execution of imports, export, empty container repositioning, and inter-depot transportation activities.
• Resolve operational disruptions promptly to minimize service interruptions.
Fleet & Driver Management
• Manage company-owned and subcontracted truck fleets to ensure high equipment availability.
• Monitor fleet utilization, vehicle productivity, fuel efficiency, and maintenance performance.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance and repair activities to maximize fleet reliability.
• Lead the recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management of truck drivers and transportation staff.
• Promote safe driving behavior and ensure compliance with all road safety regulations.
• Develop driver engagement and retention initiatives to maintain a stable workforce.
Operational Planning & Control
• Develop transportation schedules and allocate resources based on business priorities.
• Monitor daily operational KPIs and implement corrective actions to achieve performance targets.
• Ensure transportation documentation and operational records are complete and accurate.
• Optimize routing, trip planning, truck turnaround time, and equipment utilization.
• Lead operational reviews and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Cost Management
• Prepare and manage the transportation operating budget.
• Monitor transportation costs, including fuel, maintenance, subcontracting, tolls, and labor.
• Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety or service quality.
• Analyze operational performance and recommend productivity improvements.
• Support pricing analysis by providing transportation cost data to commercial teams.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
• Foster a strong safety culture across all trucking operations.
• Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, labor laws, customer requirements, and company policies.
• Monitor driver working hours and compliance with fatigue management requirements.
• Investigate transportation incidents and implement preventive measures.
• Ensure vehicles, equipment, and drivers meet all legal and operational requirements.
• Maintain high standards of service quality and customer satisfaction.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
• Build strong relationships with customers, shipping lines, depots, terminals, subcontractors, and government authorities.
• Collaborate closely with Commercial and Customer Service teams to meet customer expectations.
• Support the implementation of new customer accounts and transportation solutions.
• Handle transportation-related customer escalations and ensure timely resolution.
Leadership & People Development
• Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing transportation operations team.
• Establish clear performance objectives and conduct regular performance reviews.
• Identify training and development need to enhance team capabilities.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Develop succession plans for key transportation positions.
Continuous Improvement
• Develop and continuously improve transportation SOPs and operational standards.
• Lead digitalization initiatives, including Transportation Management System (TMS) implementation and enhancement.
• Analyze operational data to identify efficiency improvement opportunities.
• Benchmark industry best practices and implement operational excellence initiatives.
