Delivery Validation A BA does not just record requests. You dig deeper to find the real problem, spot contradictions, define business rules, remove ambiguity, and produce specifications clear enough for both people and AI to implement accurately. AI is used throughout the workflow, but the BA remains ultimately accountable for the correctness of requirements and business logic.
Key Responsibilities
Discovery and Requirement Gathering: Participate in discoverysessions with clients and stakeholders. Understand the client's business model, processes, and objectives. Interview stakeholders to identify real needs. Distinguish between business problems, business needs, user requests, and proposed solutions. Proactively ask questions to uncover missing requirements.
Requirement Analysis: Analyze and structure requirements from multiple sources (client interviews, meeting notes, existing systems, documents, data). Identify conflicting or incomplete requirements. Distinguish functional and non-functional requirements, business rules, constraints, and assumptions. Identify edge cases and exception scenarios.
Business Process Modelling: Analyze the current state (As-Is), design the future state (To-Be). Identify actors, actions, decisions, and system interactions. Spot bottlenecks and propose process improvements. Use flowcharts, BPMN, user journeys, and swimlane diagrams at a working level.
Product and Feature Specification: translate requirements into implementable specifications covering: feature description, user stories, user flows, business rules, input/output, validation rules, permissions, error cases, edge cases, acceptance criteria, dependencies, assumptions, and out-of-scope items. Specifications must be clear enough for Engineering to build without constantly coming back to ask questions.
Data and System Thinking: understand basic entities and relationships. Define data inputs, outputs, and ownership. Understand data flows between systems. Read basic SQL queries. Understand APIs at request/response level. Understand authentication and authorization at a business level.
AI in BA work: use AI to research domains, prepare questions, analyze meeting notes, identify missing requirements, draft specifications, and challenge assumptions. All AI output must be verified by the BA before entering official specifications.
Requirement Verification: ensure requirements meet criteria for completeness, consistency, testability, traceability, feasibility, clarity, and edge case coverage.
Stakeholder Communication: attend client meetings, clarify requirements and business rules, confirm scope, manage requirement changes, follow up on pending items, and ensure stakeholders and engineering share the same understanding.
Delivery and Collaboration: work directly with PMs, Technical Leads, Designers, Developers, and QA. Explain specifications, answer business logic questions, support QA in building test scenarios, validate features before release, participate in UAT, and gather post-release feedback.
Requirements
Experience: under 2 years in Business Analysis, Product, Project Management, or Software Development, or no professional experience but you have participated in at least one real software project.
You should have work samples to discuss: analysis documents, specifications, case studies, process flows, or products you contributed to.
Business Analysis Fundamentals: understand and can practice requirement gathering, requirement analysis, user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules, process modelling, functional/non-functional requirements, scope management, and basic UAT.
System Thinking: understand how a web or mobile application works at a basic level. Understand how frontend, backend, and database interact. Basic API understanding; can read data flows and basic SQL. Understand authentication and authorization at a business level.
AI-native: have used AI tools in real work or projects. Can use an LLM to research, analyze, draft, challenge, and validate. Able to detect AI output that reads well but is wrong in terms of business logic. Aware of data protection when using AI.
Documentation: write clear, structured documentation. Can turn discussions into requirements and requirements into specifications. Not reliant on verbal explanations.
Communication: ask the right questions, explain issues clearly. Distinguish between facts, assumptions, and opinions. Communicate effectively with both business stakeholders and technical teams. Read and understand technical documentation in English.
Nice to have
Background in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or Economics.
Experience as a Software BA, in Product Management, or Product Operations.
Agile/Scrum experience.
Familiarity with Jira, Notion, or Confluence. Knowledge of Figma, BPMN, or basic UML.
Testing with SQL skills, API testingwith Postman, REST API/GraphQL.
Experience with SaaS or enterprise software, AI products, LLMs, RAG, chatbots, or AI workflows.
Built your own prompt or AI workflows.
Strong English communication, experience working with international clients.
