Position Summary
We are looking for
an Assistant who will be part of a project to adapt and test a tool for risk
assessment within agricultural commodity supply chains at the macro and micro
levels to better understand risk and provide recommendations to supply chain
managers. The tool will be an adaptation
from a tool already developed and applied at the micro and macro levels across
several countries in one commodity. The current task is to adapt the tool to
some changes in structure, create a simplified Excel interface for users, and
validate the tool using data previously collected for the assessment. The project will also develop guidelines to
support future users to use the tool to assess a diverse range of supply chains
across commodities and countries. We are
seeking an Assistant interested in supporting this process of tool refinement
and validation, and potentially applying the tool to new cases at the macro
(secondary data, desk research) and micro (site visit, interview based) levels.
Key Responsibilities
Support adaptation of the existing tool to a new risk
assessment structure, including mapping existing indicators to the new
structure.
Validate the tool using existing data at the macro and
micro levels across several countries
Support writing of guidelines for use of the tool by
others including data collection, data input into tool, risk scoring,
interpretation, and reporting.
Support development of an excel based tool that is
simple to use and facilitates data input and scoring across the different risk
areas and indicators.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor
or master's degree in a related social science (for example sociology, economic
geography, economics, business, others).
Knowledge
of supply chains, market systems, value chains, commodity chains approaches or similar.
Knowledge
of supply chain risk analysis including environmental, human rights and child
labor related risks.
Experience
using interview data, secondary data, existing datasets for research, use of
indicators and scoring.
Experience
developing tools, methodologies, guidelines or instructions a plus.
Comfortable
with Excel, intermediate to advanced level user.
Fluent
in English (able to find, read and summarize literature, secondary data and
interview data in both languages, writing ability in English).
Terms of employment:
This position will be based at the CIAT office in Hanoi. The appointment will be for 6 to 8 weeks, and may be renewed depending on performance and availability of funds. The Alliance is an equal opportunity employer and strives for staff diversity in gender and nationality.
